H9TVW Golf G60

15 posts in this topic

Normally don't do much build threads or posts! Since I know most on here through facebook I thought I may as well start a thread on the above Golf I bought a few weeks ago. Having known the previous owner who sold it on a few months ago, I couldn't not buy it when it came back up of sale again due the the new owner being unable to store it any more.

So, H9TVW has Dubforce stickers on the rear quarter windows so someone on here must know it or have owned it in the past.

This is how it was collected.

There is a few things missing from it but I will be doing a wanted add soon once i have put a list together of what I need.

The engine bay was shy of some parts when collected!!

[attachment=17132:thumb_IMG_2309_1024.jpg]

This was more so a reason to buy it as I have removed a good working G60 from a Corrado that got fitted with a 20VT, so the heart is just going straight in here and I will rebuild the engine that was there at a later date.

The charger has already been sent to OCD for a health check and has been given a clean bill of health with very minimum wear on the scroll faces.

Updates will be slow for a bit as its away to the bodyshop to have the scuttle replaced and a few, well almost all, panels fixed and painted.

Oh and these are going in the bin!!

Well maybe on eBay as they are not staying!!

Well it's not looking so HOT now.

[attachment=17144:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1438877979.215623.jpg]

Removed the wings and full interior as its booked in for the scuttle to be replaced. Worst part was the drivers sill has been jacked up at some point causing this!

[attachment=17145:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1438878051.613155.jpg]

New sill on order now as wasn't expecting to find this!

Some more engine bay pics and the scuttle rust.

Lou, just now it's out of my hands!! Looks like it will be getting a full hit when it's there tho so shall be fresh and ready to build up when I get it back. Been sent this pic today so don't think they should be that long with it as the big job is now done!

[attachment=17152:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1439393029.449278.jpg]

Dropped in on the body shop today and it was getting its final prep before paint. Should be in paint by the end of this week.

[attachment=17182:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1441664874.939621.jpg]

[attachment=17183:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1441664896.676747.jpg]

Three 2nd hand bonnets and two new one to get a dent/rust free panel!

[attachment=17184:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1441664945.976834.jpg]

Same thing with the drivers wing. It was a mess behind the arch! When all the crap was removed it was just left with rust and a big hole!

[attachment=17185:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1441665111.127744.jpg]

So three replacement wings to get one to fit right. Only thing was they all didn't fit at the top corner so a small adjustment was required which then added a crease so had to be filled.

[attachment=17186:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1441665248.341867.jpg]

Can't wait to get it back and start the rebuild.

Now my next dilemma is 8V or go all out and 16V it!

Went and collected the G60 for the body shop yesterday. Was a little longer than expected but couldn't get the screen refitted as the trim was damaged and had to wait on a new one arriving.

Collected all the parts from powder coating last week and the build will start in a few weeks once I've cleared my workload and free up some time.

Roll on the spring time.

Moved both cars around to free up some space and start by changing the back axle and front cross members for the powder coated bits.

Could say that not much has happened lately, but the thing was striped to a shell, just about. Everything was removed from the underneath so I could get all the nuts and bolts anodised. This has really stopped me from doing anything bar finding some flaking under seal that was needing sorted.

Engine has been cleaned and painted ready to be rebuilt when I get the nuts and bolts back, due next week.

I'll just leave some pics here.

[attachment=17331:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455237787.929245.jpg]

I also stripped the heater box and replaced all the broken foam on the flaps, replaced the matrix while it was in bits.

[attachment=17332:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455237854.744161.jpg]

[attachment=17333:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455237881.427136.jpg]

[attachment=17334:ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455237901.900832.jpg]

Found a broken flap arm when I removed one of the flaps so removed one from another heater box to build this back together.
